TALKE takes charge of QAPCO’s logistics operations in Mesaieed
Hürth/Mesaieed (Qatar), 17 January 2013. Plastics manufacturer Qapco has commissioned the TALKE Group to manage its logistics operations for goods produced at the company’s new LDPE-3 manufacturing plant in Mesaieed, Qatar. The chemical logistics specialist, based in Hürth near Cologne, will initially be responsible for the bagging and loading of 300,000 metric tons of polyethylene granulate each year, as well as for the maintenance of all on-site logistics facilities and equipment.
The newly completed LDPE-3 plant is the third of its kind operated by Qapco on its premises in the Qatari city of Mesaieed. With the addition of the new plant, Qapco’s Mesaieed complex will now be able to achieve an annual production output of 1.15 million metric tons, making it the largest integrated polyethylene manufacturing facility in the world by annual production volume.
TALKE will be assuming complete control of all logistics operations at the new plant. Among other things, its responsibilities will therefore include the filling, storage and loading of polymer granulate into bags and containers, plant transportation and the maintenance of buildings and equipment.
“For the petrochemical companies in the Gulf, quality and safety-oriented logistics service providers are vital in achieving the sustainable development of the industry,” states Group Managing Director Alfred Talke. “For many years now, TALKE has been viewed as a reliable partner in this regard. Our experience in polymer logistics, as well as in handling specialty chemicals, enables us to support companies in the region effectively.”
The TALKE Group began its operations in the Middle East in 2003 and has continued to expand its regional activities ever since. In 2013, the Group’s regional polymer granulate shipping volumes are expected to exceed 5 million metric tons for the first time. Since the middle of the last year, TALKE has also supported Middle Eastern chemical manufacturers in its main area of expertise: liquid chemical logistics. With an aim to supporting this development, the company established a regional office in Bahrain last November.
